About Uandishi
Uandishi means "writing" in Kiswahili. We help Kenyan children become confident writers, one essay at a time.
Why we built it
Children learn to write by writing, and by hearing what to fix. But a teacher with a class of fifty can't give every composition the detailed feedback it deserves, and many parents aren't sure how a CBC essay is marked.
Uandishi reads a child's handwritten essay from a photo and marks it the way the CBC rubric does, for their grade, in English or Kiswahili. Parents see clear, specific feedback; teachers get their evenings back.
What we stand for
-
The child writes, on paper
Uandishi marks; it never writes for the child. Their own handwriting is the point.
-
Honest marking
Every result is checked by a second, independent marking, and teachers can always review it. It's a learning aid, not an exam result.
-
Fair to families
Teachers use it free. Parents pay a small price per page, only for what's marked, with no subscription.
-
Children's privacy first
A first name and a grade are all we ask about a child. No ads, and children's work is never sold.
Who we are
Uandishi is built in Kenya, for the CBC classroom and the families around it. Write to us any time with questions or ideas.
